For an indoor pool, a foam swimming pool cover is significantly better at retaining heat within the pool than a bubble cover, as the foam is thicker, better insulated and stays in position better than a bubble cover tends to as it is heavier and much less flexible.
One of the reason these covers are used for indoor and not outdoor pools is because they are not designed to heat the water via solar gain in warm sunlight. As you would expect, solar gain can be a significant source of pool heating in the summer for an outdoor pool or a pool covered by some form of enclosure. However, indoor pools are are not exposed to the same level of solar heat and therefore you would not expect receive the same benefit.
One final thing to bear in mind is that as they are heavier than bubble covers, many people choose to install an automatic roller in order to make the process of opening or closing the cover a little bit easier.
